Summative assessment
Who will grade the assessment?
As the teacher I will be the only one to view these assessments after students have completed them. I will not have peers grade the assessments of peers nor will I have a teacher’s aide complete my assessment grading. When I grade the assessment myself I will be able to look at each student’s performance and better understand it as I know my students. I will objectively determine how many points a student deserves based on their mastery of the objectives.
When will the assessment be graded?
The assessment will be graded the night that the assessment was completed. It will be my goal to have the assessment back to the students with valuable feedback, data collected and action plans made two days after the assessment at the maximum. If I assess and return the assessment promptly I will be able to create and implement action plans while they are still relevant.
How will the assessment outcomes be communicated?
The outcomes of the assessment will be communicated in different ways depending on who is getting the information. Students will receive their original assessment with feedback and a grade in person. The grades will also be posted on the classroom website where parents can access their student’s grades at any times. I will make the assessment grades available to administrators and colleagues as they will be recorded in my grade book. Grades will not be made public and will be communicated only to stakeholders directly involved.
What happens after the assessment?
After the assessment has been scored and data has been collected and analyzed I will implement the correct action plan. Every student will fill out a Post Test Worksheet so that they may collect their own data and look at their achievement. Procedures as outlined in the previous section will be put in place for remediation and extension as necessary.
What type of feedback will I give?
The type of feedback a student receives is dependent on how well they performed on the test. The range of performance usually falls into three categories: high, medium, and low performing. Since my unit test is out of twenty-five, here is how I would rank the scores in the previous terms:
